I’ll be posting Part 2 to this thread as well. Figure it will just be easier that way.
I like rebuilding carburetors. It’s been years since I did one, and it was nice to get my hands dirty doing one. The Ford is running great now, in large part it’s due to this job. It’s funny how you can make the engine almost run like new with a few dollars and some time spent rebuilding the carburetor. What are your thoughts?

There are still lots of carburetors around on small engines such as mowers, lawn tractors, and some modern motorcycles.
I recently rebuilt the carbs on a Yamaha Virago for a friend, and have done too many Japanese carbs over the years. In my opinion. the Japanese elevated the science of carburation in the same way that the Swiss perfected the mechanical watch.
I can get spark plug color as uniform, cylinder to cylinder, with a carburetoed 4-cylinder bike as good as any of my fuel injected Toyota or Honda cars.
They ain’t crude instruments.
HIC valve = “Hot Idle Control” valve. Just say’n.
Tx for a great pair of videos. Almost makes me long for the days as carbs were going out and F.I. was coming in and manufacturers were doing weird stuff to carbs to make the emissions numbers.
