I have a 1985 Dodge Ram W150 with a stock 5.7L 360 that has around 280xxx miles. Recently my carburetors accelerator pump has gone out. I believe it is a Rochester Quadrajet (which came with the 85 models) I am on a tight budget and was wanting to know if it would be cheaper to have it rebuilt, or buy a new one. Or if there is any other advice. Also I have heard the Quadrajets are difficult to rebuild. Is this true? And if so will it cost more if I took it to a shop.

                Okay a little update
Ive been pretty busy since i posted this but today i found the time to ask a neighbor down the street his advice on how to go about the rebuild. He came over and looked at the carb and told me its so clean he can just get a accelerator pump and some WD40 and replace it with out taking out the carb. Im not the best with mechanical stuff, but is that alright to do?

We hadnt pulled it apart yet, but he seems to think it is clean enough that we can just replace the accelerator pump and top seal.
Found a rebuild kit at the local parts store for $28 dollars so im going to go pick it up this week

Well i tore apart the carburetor to find that it was pretty much bone dry, but was working fine. On a closer look found the fuel pump went out. So went and picked up a pump, filter, and new fuel line. Now its all up and running. Thanks guys for the help

I always had issues with the 2v Holley carb on the 360 engine, I like to modify them to a Motorcrap and then the 360 will run decent… Did that to an IH truck too, made a huge difference in gas mileage.
