In automatic transmission vehicles, the moment the vehicle is already in gear (i.e., first gear),…….parking brake already released,……….the vehicle starts moving forward even without pressing on the gas pedal. In my case, my car is already on first geat but the car won’t move unless I depress the gas pedal halfway down. And then it jerks forward.

Is there anything wrong with my car ? The transmission fluid is at the correct level.

It sounds like the transmission is losing pressure that engages a clutch or band to cause the vehicle to move. Revving the motor increases the flow/pressure and engages the gear. With no further details (make, model, year or mileage) I can only guess that something is worn out. I have had success in the past by adding a quart of Lucas trans conditioner. You will have to get some fluid out to put it in and it takes about 1 hour of mixed driving to take effect. I had a problem similar on a Taurus. Added the Lucas, went on some errands, and by the time I got home it was shifting like new.

Try the Lucas. It can’t hurt and will set you back less than $15.
