      Hi guys

      New member here, my daily driver has been stuck in the garage for almost i year now, and the winter is almost here, and i need to get it going…I want to park my chevy before the snow and salt is comming.
      Its a 95 Kia Sportage

      Well… to turn back in time, in 2012, almost at this time, the fuel pump in the car went bad.
      The pump was changed, also the fuel tank and injectors was removed and clean, and the car would run awsome for three whole months…in around january this year, i was pulling in to work, and the car just died… Had it towed to my garage, and found out the 3months old fuel pump was dead….(damn you ebay!)

      Contacted so the seller of the pump that promissed me that he would send out a new one…or 2. A month went by and no pump did arive. So, i went kinda crazy and order 3, brand new fuel pumps… Also ending up buying a new pump at a shop here in norway…

      So, yeah tried some f/p and none of them would make the run like it used to. Again, cleaned the fuel lines,etc and really did not make a diffrence. At that time i was able to get it started, but run on like 500rpm at idle. Just shake and no power at all… If you pressed the gasspedal, it was like the power just dissapered. But later, i come to think about two years ago, when the car was missfiring, due to a bad coilpack, and ending up orderings brand new igniton parts. Plugs, coilpack wires etc.

      So, it really did not make i diffrence, but atleast i know that theyre good….And should last a long time…Still the same, if im lucky it would barely start.

      Really put a lot of money in this car.

      Some facts:

      * New sparkplugs, wires, coilpack etc
      * Timing belt was changed around 20-30k miles ago. (3-4years)
      * No fault codes stored
      * Runs with starting fluid
      * Injectors are clicking
      * There is fuel pressure, and its circling around in the system.
      * Smells fuel in the exhuast, after a while with cranking.
      * Fuel pump and filter, is 10 months old.
      * Compression should be ok, as the car is running good on starting fluid

      Any tips?

        if it runs off starter fluid.Then its a fuel issue.
        I would put a fuel gauge on it and read fuel pressure.

          Hi thx

          I am waiting for a fuel pressure gauge.
          But say, that the fuel pressure is good, whats would be the next step to check?

                I can’t speak for your area, but around here 1 year old gasoline is almost certainly garbage.
                In a few instances, I’ve had gasoline less than 6 months old that would cause a no-start problem with not a sputter or cough; and that was also gas that had been treated with Sta-Bil.

                  Yeah OK. I know that my fuel tank has a drain plug…(yeah, you dont see that often ^^) So maybe i should try that? I also know that these cars somethimes has an issue with the keyway.
                  A friend of mine really think is a good idea to check the timing belt…Maybe its a tooth og two off…

                    If the timing was off.The car should not run on the starter fluid.

                      Don’t take this personal. I don’t know what your cash flow is like. However vehicles have a sneaky way of eating out your money. I understand that you want to fix your ride. You need to weigh out the costs financially. Sometimes it is better to throw the vehicle in the garbage and get another one with less problems.

                      P.S I had a Chevy Astro 1998. Bought it for $275 and ran it for a year just fine. Then stuff started to happen and it was costing too much for repairs. I let it go. However I did not move as fast as I could in doing so.

                        Ok, you got a point there. Never really thought about that…Just tought as long as the car runs on starter fluid, the ignition & compression must be good. A friend of mine, told me that a sensor could be bad, still with no codes…? Inmy mind when a sensor has problems it will make the Check Engine go on…

                        Hi, you really got a point there. But to make it short. THIS was/is my first car. Costed around 2 grand when my dad bougth it..Me and my dad has since then used over 10 grand to fix it.

                        * Rust welding rear end of frame. 4 grand
                        * headgasket, new cylinder head + timing belt 1 grand
                        * exhaust + cat 1 grand
                        * clutch, flywheel, clutch slave cylinder 2 grand
                        etc etc.

                        The list is long, and yeah, things are expensive here in norway… But yeah… Over the last 3 years…i have driving the car 20k miles. So in my mind the car has not done its job yet..

                                After a tips, on the kia forum. I tought that the inn and return fuel line could me mixed up. So i switched them, and that seems to be correct, but still no start…maybe time to check the timinng belt?

                                  Still no starting…

                                  Did the compression test:

                                  1. 190 psi
                                  2. 150 psi
                                  3. 155 psi
                                  4. 190 psi

                                  A little low on the 2-3, but that should not be the cause…they told me that at kiaforums. Also, if i remember correctly he was able to start it only 2 cylinder running…

                                  The injectors, are open og closing when cranking. Also comes fuel out…but is it enough?

                                  And also, gonna drain the fuel and put on new fuel…just to check it…

                                    Start with fresh fuel (not too much) than test fuel pressure,

                                    Fuel sitting in the tank and in the pump for a year might have ruined the pump’s ability to supply enough fuel to start. On some injected vehicles as little as 5 to 10 psi loss is enough to cause a no start. A great example is the Chevy 4.3 Vortec engine as little a ONE psi under minimum fuel pressure will cause a no start condition.
