Hi Eric,,
I have moved to the Republic of Colombia,,the drivers down here are notorious for lack of maintenance with their cars..Their attitude is drive em till they break and then fix them..
Background,, Currently I have a 2009 Chevy C2 of Mexican manufacture..It has 44,000 miles on it..These cars are highly valued by taxi drivers because of their durability and fuel economy..99 % are stick shifts..Mine is an automatic..The terrain is mountainous..Our average altitude is 4000 feet, and the temperature ranges from a low of 63 to a high of 83 F. The normal speed limits are +/- less than 50 mph…My car runs a little bit hot in traffic, one needle width over midway and cools to two needle widths below the midway mark on straight and level roads..I have checked the thermometer and it’s operating correctly..
Okay that said; when I purchased the car I knew I had some catch up maintenance work to do..I started with the transmission..The fluid is dark brown, does NOT smell burned,,and cleaned and flushed the radiator and refilled with a 50/50 mixture..
My problem is that because these cars have been manufacture discontinued there is very little information available regarding transmissions..or for that measure parts availability, meaning tranny filters..I can’t find one nor any ordering info regarding same.
I’m about to undertake a tranny flush by me…and try to get all the old fluid out..This may take two or three fluid changes ( drive it 100 miles and change it again) to get it flushed as best I can..I do not have a new filter, nor is one available..It is my “belief” that the OEM filter is a screen type..
I’m trying to get the cooling down and steady,,and of course the tranny cleaned up…It’s my opinion that the tranny is a contributes to the heating problem..
Your advice and consul is valued..Sincerely ,,Jim Durham
