I have a 1990 ford ranger xlt 4×4. I just bought it about 5 months ago, I am 17 and it was cheap, but my mechanic, a family friend, said that it was in good mechanical order. Recently it started shaking after starting it in the morning. As soon as the car is put into drive the shaking goes away. And it doesn’t come back, even when the car is put back into park. Any ideas what this could be? I’ve read tires, transmission mounts, and engine mounts. But that wouldn’t go away when the truck was put into gear wouldn’t it? Any insight would be helpful. If it matters the car overheated recently, but that was due to a blown radiator hose.

Very strange indeed. This may be a long-shot, but I would probably check the engine and trans mounts first, followed by the harmonic balancer, flexplate/torque converter, and exhaust system flanges and hangers. My initial thought is something is loose in the drive line and putting the trans in drive temporarily torques it up tight again.
