Hello everyone. I have a ’90 ford ranger 4×4, and this really weird thing is happening. When I turn the wheel with the car stationary, the car rolls from left to right. Right to left. I watched the wheels as they turned, and the only thing I saw happening was when the wheel went to full lock, the steering stabilizer rotated a little. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Thanks in advance!
Did Ford use their funky “Twin Traction Beam” split front axle on this truck? That front suspension system caused wheel camber to vary wildly from lock-to-lock. What you’re experiencing could be nothing more than the normal body roll caused by the tires leaning over at full lock. (On the full-size Ford trucks, it often looked like the front wheels were going to fold under the truck at full steering lock.

The first thing to do would be to have the alignment checked. Ford’s Twin Traction Beam system got pretty loopy when the alignment was out of spec.
If that is the case, he actually had some issues with his tie-rods, might need to have that checked to see if they failed and messed up the alignment.

Reset the computer, and the 4×4 started working again. And i made sure the truck was out of 4×4. I do have the TTB front axle. Is there an easy way to check alignment? Or is going to the pros the right option? What about tie-rods? Thanks for all your help BTW!

You can check the rough alignment, but on something like this, where Evil-i says its finicky, take it to the pros.
If you can jack the car up (enough to get the front tires off the ground) check for movement in the tie rods by pulling on the tires at 3 and 9 o’ clock.
Make sure you support it correctly

Brought the truck to an alignment shop today. They said the alignment was good, and the tie rods were good, and its still doing it. Any other ideas?

Honestly I would check out http://www.therangerstation.com/ for any and all ranger based vehicle needs.
