Ok, so I recently put transmission fluid in the old 91 Cavalier because the car would drag when I start to accelerate. It only happens when I stop and then accelerate. (for example: I’m at a red light and the light turns green, so I accelerate and the car starts to drag)

Another issue I am having is with a slight “hopping” feeling when the car hits 50mph. It stops “hopping”, however, when I get to 55mph. I got new front tires 3 months ago (I didn’t purchase all 4 new tires because of my monetary situation at the time) so could it be a difference in both the brand and wear of the tires or is it something else?

Anyways those are both of my concerns and I would appreciate any responses greatly. Thanks!

Wondering if there might be something going on with your torque converter.

        As to your tires..
It may ride strange with having 2 different sets of tires.
But unless there is a broken belt inside the tire or a bubble, I kinda doubt that is causing your issue.
Besides I would think a damaged tire would should signs of poor riding and handling no matter what speed.

Worn front struts can cause tire hop, and will chew up your tires quickly.

What do you mean by hopping? It may also be a misfire. I’ve had customers with the same complaint for a misfire haha. Any codes?

No codes that I can see. I rotated my tires and lubed my chassis today and it seems to have done the trick. It is likely that I need to look at the struts though.

What chassis parts did you lube, just curious. What do you mean by “dragging” off the line? Worn engine mounts could cause a saddening decrease in torque response if that’s what you mean.

Well when you take the car to a mechanic for an oil change, they typically do just an oil change but sometimes they do a chassis lubrication. Essentially, you take a grease gun and go behind the car’s tires. There’s a little nozzle (I guess is what you would call it) for you to attach the grease gun to. After you attach it, pump the grease inside until the grease starts oozing out (some people prefer to pump until they see nothing but clean, new grease). Essentially, you have “lubricated the chassis”.

This lubricates both the front and rear joints and gives you a smoother ride.
