The car is a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird LE Coupe V6,
I bought a trim Door Panel Remover Tool and Popped all the Tabs after Removing the mirror panel, armrest upper and lower, door handle/locker, windows crank, and yet I still cant remove the Trim panel ๐Ÿ™ The part in the picture I have circled in red is where its still holding on to the door, at the top around the silver trim and black rubber. Whats the deal ? I tried some English as Eric would say and tried prying up on the silver bit to pop it out, no success seems as if i pry any harder i will break it. Any ideas? I need to learn how to remove the door trim panel to replace a window run channel.

Are you pulling out or up and out? Sometimes with door panels you need to push it up to get it come out if that isnt working get a putty knife (plastic one would be nice so it doesnt mess up the plastic on there or a metal one with some duct tape on and trying to carefully push up you need to wrench it a little bit but should give.

I’m pulling out only, just trying to be careful(maybe to much so). I’ll try to push up on it and see if it goes. I have a plastic puddy knife so i’ll also try to pry it up. I’ll get back to you with the results of your suggestion.

Of course, first thing to ask is – are you SURE you have even slightest hidden screw removed?
You do have glass lowered won all the way, right?
From what I recall on GM cars, there may be a lip on the door panel in marked area, that hugs metal panel inside. To bypass it, I had to angle panel on the door, lower end towards the seat, then slide it up and out, sort of circumventing that lip. Basically, pushing into the glass and up.

It does seem like there is some sort of lip in there ukrkoz. I actually had the window cranked all the wall up to the top ๐Ÿ˜† , when I was attempting removal. I’ll try it again with the window all the way down. Ur saying push in at the top of the door trim panel(circled red) and then slide up correct? Thanks for the help Jinzo and ukrkoz.

All I know is you have to push up. Remember these things are designed to be assembled quickly at the assembly plant. Think in reverse of quick assembly.

I got you barneyb. Maybe I’m just being a sissy. ๐Ÿ˜† I’ve got to change my mind frame and try to think like a car manufacture does. This will help me progress forward quicker I bet.

The inside [iece by the mirror will have to come off to allow the panel to come up and off. The window regulator will have to come off. There’s generally (not always) screws at the interior handle and the actual handle which is in this case part of the arm rest. It also might be worth investigating behind the removable piece on the lower seatbelt to see if it will come off easily. Sometimes a minute in one spot can save you 10 screaming. :woohoo:

Also don’t yank too hard there is a physical connection at both the interior handle and interior lock selector. The connections are typically metal rods that are easily disconnected. The disconnection method should be fairly obvious.

I’m just going to add that seat belt in the door is wierd…. never seen that before but looks like you have to take more stuff off from looking at that photo unless you put it back together to make it look pretty for its photo shoot

The whole trim panel will easily separate off the door once everything’s removed, except for the section circled in red in the picture. Ya the seat belt mechanism being built into the door is very strange. Only car I’ve seen with it ๐Ÿ™ and the seatbelt itself does go into the door at the top of the red circled trim panel. Theres a plastic bit that it goes into and I hope you can separate it and slide it up the seatbelt.

You guy all rock!!! Success!!! I did require the window to be rolled down all the way as said. Also there was a ridge that required the trim to be pushed up and in at the same time. Thanks again to all. The forum here is super knowledgeable. I like to learn new things everyday especially involving wrenching on automotive stuff. I think i’ll learn a lot from you guys. ๐Ÿ™‚ Here are some pics
