I have a 2000 civic ex with freshly rebuilt bottom end when I installed engine I broke knock sensor off 50 miles later it started knocking in between 1500 and 3000 rpm . My question is could the knocking be caused by the broken knock sensor?

I want to say it could be possible. I do not think the sensor is causing the knocking, I think when a good knock sensor detects an engine knock then it will retard the ignition. So with a broke sensor I think the computer is not getting a signal to retard the ignition. I would say the first think to do is fix the sensor. Good luck.

I think you will be removing the engine again if the bottom end repair wasn’t done properly. It takes people with special skills, measuring tools, knowledge and experience to do the job successfully.

The knock that the knock sensor senses is very high in frequency and is barely audible to the human ear.

The knock sensor protects the engine against detonation. Detonation sounds like a click, ping or rattle. A low pitched steady knock, if that is what you are experiencing, isn’t detonation.
