Hey just wondering if anyone knows if an rke (remote keyless entry module) from a 2001 neon can be replaced without drb III reprogramming at a dealer if you buy a used one? from everything i’ve read they all say yes it needs to be done with the drb III but I’m assuming they are assuming you are going to buy a new one. what if its used?

From what I read all parameters must be reprogrammed. you can
try the used one and let us know if it works unprogrammed.

A rephrase of what you are asking is can you pick up any remote and unlock any car of that make. That would not be much security.

            Look up the programming procedure.
Here is one to try –
            http://blog.keylessentryremotefob.com/2014/03/2001-dodge-neon-key-fob-remote.html
If that doesn’t work, I am sure there is other stuff to look up.
In pretty much most cars, the ignition key must be in and turned to the ACC position.

Often times, programming the RKE system to a fob is not that difficult. If you have a dealership do it, they will charge over $100 for something you could have done at home in the same amount of time it takes to jam to your favorite song.

Also make sure the used fob you are going to get is compatible with your car.

If you are wondering just why the procedure is simple on many vehicles, it is because if someone already has the ignition key in hand, security is a moot point by then.
