I’m done chasing my caster issue, the car drives fine and doesn’t make any suspension noise.
The car has a CEL with code 17, vehicle speed sensor.
The speedo works, but reads around 10 mph faster than actual speed (according to the sign by my house). The cruise control works too, which I hear is not common with a faulty VSS. The odometer is frozen at 144,699 miles, but I have heard that the gear in the odometer could cause that.
      Symptoms:
Puff of steam when accelerating, smells like water vapor.
      Soot in tailpipe.
Engine bogs on warm start, holds 300 rpm idle for a few seconds, then goes to 500 (normal idle)
      Speedo incorrect
      Odometer doesn’t work
Very intermittent smell of gas on cold start
Car runs great, good compression, idles smooth, no loss of fluids.

I haven’t replaced the VSS yet because I am unsure if it’s the sensor or something else throwing the code.

The vss may affect how the car shifts from the tcm getting the wrong info.
        but should not affect mixture.

Darn I was hoping I found my rich condition.
Would the VSS cause my speedo and odometer problem?
It’s a standard so shifting is unaffected.

The vss is what sends the signal to the speedo. So yes it will affect the way it works.

              Final question for this issue
I know hondas have a vss problem, I can’t afford a new one (70 bucks aftermarket)
What are the odds that one from the junkyard will work?
At 5 bucks it’s affordable, but not if I have to buy 15 of them hoping one works.

Considering that you yourself said vss is a problem in Hondas, you will have to buy a few from the junk yard to find one that works. Here are some hints to help though. Look for a car that was sent there due to a car accident rather than failures. Those have a better chance of having good parts on them. Another is if you plan to get a used part from the junk yard, get one that is still installed on the car and that is still covered from water damage (you know hood installed, no bolts are loose, etc.) keep in mind above all, these probably wont be permanent fixes but something to get you by until you can get a new replacement parts. You can get warranty from the junk yard but you will have to be going back and fourth for it.
