So I am working on this Cadillac deville. Anyone ever replace the oil pan gasket? I knew this was a difficult car to work on but I never knew it would be like this. I about ready to set the car on fire lol.

to get the pan out you need to remove the cross over exhaust pipe and loosen the engine mounts and raise the motor high enough to let the pan slide out. an engine hoist will work well to raise the motor or use an engine support bar ( the type used when pulling a transmission ) using a jack is tough as were do you put it ? not under the pan. some of the bolts are a bear so swivel sockets will be your friend and long extensions.

so have to come to the conclusion that it is impossible to replace to the oil pan gasket without removing the engine. I have removed both engine mounts and still do not have enough room to remove the oil pan. Am I wrong? I am not a expert on these north-star engines.

Im getting about two inches after removing both motor mounts, however there is no way to remove the pan seeing as how the exhaust is in the way and is impossible to remove. sorry no pics. any GM experts on this form? or anyone that has done this repair before.

You need to drop the crossover tube for the exhaust and then the pan will come out.
