I am trying to get a clear understanding about the difference between a Honda cable transmission and the hydraulic transmission.
I bought a civy a while ago that had the engine swapped and the transmission was janky from day one, but it worked. Frankly this civy has lasted me longer than expected. But it’s starting to ride pretty rough; can’t take in on the highway without some pretty bad smells and sounds happening.
Please refer to this previous post for more detail:
What I would like to get to the bottom of, here, is if the stock transmission is incorrect for the D16Y7 engine? And why? I have tried to find info online describing the mechanics of cable vs hydraulic and cannot find anything that clears this up for me. The guy who sold it to me said you can plop pretty much any D-series or B-series engine in the civ and it works (he just had to rewire the O2 sensor…or something), however, I read on another forum somewhere that an adapter is required for the transmission to connect to the engine that was made for an hydraulic tranny… if that is true, then would this zippy civy even run? It runs, but never has run well. Power and shift issues abound.
Anyone have a clue to share? Ta!
