To be honest, I have a hard time thinking a used muffler can be of much good. What is it going on? Many part stores carry inexpensive mufflers that could be miles ahead of a used one that has been rotting in a salvage yard.

never know the car could have had a fairly new or like new muffler put on before it was put in a wrecking yard or a new one and got crunched on some other part of the car ,say you do not have a lot of money, this is a way i might save 20.00 or 30.00 bucks B)

Believe it or not you can get new ones for that price.

My Walker was $26.00 and it is a nice muffler.

The tailpipe was $16.00 and the converter was $101.00 and it was a direct fit.

I think the point here is missed if a used one is available and is cheaper than new why not get it.
First off what is the car?
I ask because on some cars the mufflers are very expensive, so if the one from the junkyard is still in good shape like geogeougo said it might be a good way to go. Heck while there you might come across other things you could use.

If the car in the yard came with and has a stainless steel muffler it could be a very good deal. The most miles I’ve put on a stainless steel muffler is 140,000 and it was fine when I traded the car. On the other hand, I wouldn’t bother with a plain steel muffler from a wrecker.
