Hi guys I am looking at buying a 92 Mercury Topaz with less than 80,000 miles no rust. I was going to buy it so that I have an extra car while working on my truck or the wifes car, the guy wants $800 bucks what do you guys think?

I think they were bout the worst car EVER but for $800.00 you really can’t go wrong.

Hey isn’t that just a rebadged escort? They were economical cars. Who knows maybe you will learn to love the quirkyness of them. I kinda like the one we had for a while. 5 spped 4 cylinder

Not a rebadged Escort. Tempo and Topaz were a different car altogether.

Well I bought the car and it runs good but I want to go through it anyway. I wanted to start from the top it needs a valve cover gasket and I wanted to adjust the valves while the cover is off but I cannot find the procedure. I was wondering if anybody can help me.

I’ll check my manuals out tonight when I get home. What engine is in there?

Alright the specs I’ve pulled for is an 84-87 (cant imagine they’d be too far off, but my manuals only went to 87).
                    seat angle – 45*
                    face angle – 45.5*
                    spring test pressure – 182 @ 1.107
                    installed height – 1.49

they do say though that the 2.3 has hydraulic lash adjusters, so no adjustment needed.
