Unless I miss my guess, -this- little stinker is a candidate for the ‘Dry-fouled’ and ‘Oil Burning’ awards:
Cylinders 1 and 3 were like this. Cylinder 2 was fine… can’t get to 4-6 without dismounting the air intake manifold. But judging from what I’ve seen, I’ve got me a budding engine issue.
Sad thing is the car’s a baby.. 2012 Ford Fusion SEL AWD with the 3.0 duratec.
What I don’t get is how the threads rusted so badly (and were a bit tough to get out!) in only 37k miles.
I don’t -think- it’s the rings.. no clouds of blue smoke following me around. Might be the valves, which’d suck hard. Peered into the cylinder, and it looks like there’s some pitting on the piston head. Makes me wonder if the PO used E85 in this thing or not..
What to do about this? Is anything even warranted?
Your thoughts, as well as declarations of my ignorance or stupidity are always appreciated.
