update 10-17-11

No new pictures yet hope to get some soon maybe a video also.

car has hit 1000 miles on the rebuild. It is running great. The cam was not installed yet my friend that I was working with was not confident with the tuning program I had and I
was no where near experienced enough to try and tune the car my self with the big compression bump+cam. So we decided to put it all together get it tuned and broken in then install the cam.

Well I sold my Hatch at the beginning of the yr and I really wish I hadn’t. Just thought I would update even though I have nothing to update with yet. I am looking to get another hatch and when I do I will post some pics.

              Here’s my build;

              1275cc N/A/ think thats 79-80 cubic inches.

Its got a full LCB (Long Centre Branch) Manifold down to a Single Silencer exhaust system at 2.5″.
Its on 12″ Wheels that are 5.5 Inches wide
It also a Kent 266 Cam and ported polished and gas flowed cylinder head with double valve springs.
It has a Alloy water cooled intake manifold on a HIF44 SU carburettor

An estimated figure at its power would be around the 65-70 BHP mark; It weighs just over 700kg which I think if my maths is correct is 1500 pounds. Which gives a power to weight ratio of 146bhp per tonne, I think. Could be wrong.

Any way, it goes like the clappers (british term) and it it handles better than the majority of the cars on the road today. If the ride is a little bumpy.

After my Corsa VXR 1.6 turbo melted a piston I decided to rebuild the engine with forged components and upgrade the turbo.

Here is the damage from the faulty piston:

I sourced a used engine and it was sent for reboring and honing to fit oversize Wossner Pistons. The inlet manifold was also machined so it could fit larger 480cc fuel injectors.

I opted for a thermal gasket to protect the intake from the high engine temps

Next I had to source my forged internals. I went for Wossner low compression pistons to allow more boost and less detonation. The rods are from Greece and are ZRP I-beam steel rods with ARP screws

In the picture you will also see the GM gasket set, GM bearings and NGK iridium plugs.

The turbo was sent away to have new seals and bearings built in with an uprated compressor wheel to make it capable of 280bhp. A larger EDS intercooler was installed with hard pipes and a Forge recirculation valve with uprated spring to deal with the 18psi boost from the turbo.

Engine ready for turbo and inlet manifold.

Decided on a larger bore exhaust to let the turbo work its magic.

Bigger brakes to handle the power

And a video link with the car running 8 psi boost.

I have more rebuild pictures somewhere, Ill add them in once I find them.
I loved the challenge and the car is in a class of its own now running 250bhp and nearly 300ft-lbs of torque at only 11psi. Once it is fully run in and Im happy with everything we are planning on mapping it to around 270bhp..any more and id be bankrupt on tyres as its FWD.

Would love to hear any suggestions or comments.

Update on my truck, have had it on the road since last April and have had not had a single problem with it *knock on wood*, had to modify the tune a bit to make it running 100% but it runs really strong now. I tell ya it don’t take too long to touch the 100mph mark and still wants to pull strong from there! Great on fuel too, have got as good as 27 MPG on a 200 mile highway trip with some in town driving. The 4.3L would get 21 MPG max. Pretty impressive since the LS6 with my setup has 2 more cylinders and about 280 more horsepower lol. You can cruise at 70mph with the throttle barely cracked open. Even have the cruise control working.
