buff out old decal marks?

hey guys,

so i don’t know if this is so much a repair question as a general automotive aesthetic thing…

about a year ago i removed a bunch of adhered on latex (or plastic or something) decals from the back of my pick-up. its a dodge dakota and i just wanted to get a clean look without all the logo stuff. i applied a little heat and pulled them all off and it was real easy.

anyway, its a year later now and you can still see where the logos used to be. i was wondering if theres a product, trick or technique that would buff out these old marks. any tips or suggestions?

If its the glue/residue that your talking about. There
is a product called goo be gone sold at home centers or
walmart ect…

unfortunately, you will probly see hints of it. depends on how long they have been there. paint fades differently when parts of it are covered.

This is likely what you’re dealing with.

I think what you are referring to is ghosting.
What you can do is go out and buy polishing compound, something like Meguiars Ultimate Compound and a foam applicator and work that area. May need to put in some elbow grease.
You are basically removing some paint.

Old thread but..

Steam takes care of all that goop. Buy portable steamer at Walmart, do the job and return it. They have great return acceptance. Also, removes window tint like a charm.

I’m thinking that this is a UV issue. You may just have to wetsand it out then get some paint and clearcoat and put it right back on there.

Yes…just as C&N said…it needs to be maybe we sanded a little with some 2000 grit wetsand paper and then buffed/waxed

Also…nothing u will do will likely ever totally eliminate this short of repainting but buffing and polishing will/might hide it for a little while. if it hides it for a little while then comes back it is likely u will need to re-apply wax whenever u see it begin to reappear.
