So I just got home from work a couple of minutes ago and I started hearing a bubbling sound under the hood of my 91 Cavalier. I popped the hood and tracked the noise to my coolant reservoir. There was plenty of water in it (I use water instead of coolant in the warmer months when I am pinching pennies) and the cap was tight. What would cause this?

A little extra information: A week or so ago I removed my upper radiator hose to gain better access to my egr valve when I was cleaning it. I must have broken a water seal or something because the hose (it is an older hose) started leaking after I put the hose back on. I finally managed to stop the leak with a better hose clamp. Could it be a problem with air in the hose or is this just unrelated?

Did you burp the air out of the coolant system?

Sometimes getting all the air out can be a pain.

Being that your only using water and i hope its not tap water it could be boiling

Has it been running hotter than normal ?

Also not to scare you but bubbling in the coolant tank is a sign of a blown head gasket but im not thinking that’s the issue.

Also check the seal on the cap for cracks or pieces missing.

My serpentine belt went the other day and I had to replace it (I didn’t have a torque wrench so that was a pain in the ass) and it stopped. I haven’t had a problem since.

              The problem was solved.
