Some people are really into their brands, some, not so much. Which are you?

I have always loved Hondas and my first car was a Honda Accord/Acura TSX and I absolutely loved it!
I still like every brand out there but before I buy a new car I always do some research on the car to make sure there are no critical common problems with it.
October 7, 2013 at 5:31 pm #553677Oh lord, here we go…
Well, i grew up with Volvo’s (Being a Swede and all) and i used to LOVE them up until the last of the RWD versions where made. Volvo 850 was OK despite it being FWD but that’s where the Volvo loyalty ends for me.
In Sweden we have this “war” between Volvo and Saab owners, myself i don’t care much for Saab unless it’s the Saab 95 Aero and just like with the Volvo’s, only the older models of Saab are of any worth.
Then (and thank god for not having it in your video thumbnail) i used to own a Renault. It was a piece of junk and would break down if you so much as looked at it in the wrong way.
Fords are nice, but not all of them. Likewise some Chevrolet vehicles are nice but not all of them.
GM’s i really can’t say anything good or bad about. But in the end… All that matters for me is that the car is practical, works at all times and is fun to drive. Brand loyalty or not, if you are driving a good vehicle of any particular brand then you should be happy for THAT vehicle. No brand is the “one to end all” brands.
So instead of fighting over which brand is the best, look at which car for whatever brand is the best.
I am sure that if you where to make a top ten list of the best vehicles, many different brands would be on that list and even so. Many of those vehicles would place as number one on a particular list depending on what you need to get from point A to point B.Some vehicles are good at country roads, others are really neat on the highways, some excel in the woods and some are fast while others are powerful. No brand can cover all those qualities.
October 7, 2013 at 7:52 pm #553699You know, I’ve always been a GM guy, basically because I grew up on them and I know how to work on them better then anything else. Sure, I can work on a Honda and Fords and whatnot, but I really feel at home in a GM. Brand loyalty gets pretty dumb pretty fast though, because really, almost every brand has made something that is undeniably great. In my opinion, I think it is fine to prefer one brand or another, but it really isn’t fair to say one is “better” then the other. They all have they’re strong points and weak points.
October 7, 2013 at 10:57 pm #553738I would never on my life own or drive a french car. They might be good when they are new, but a few years down the road all the electrical issues starts cropping up.
October 8, 2013 at 1:21 am #553793As I live in europe I’m leaning towards german makes VW, Audi, Opel, Mercedes- not so much.
Absolutely despise french makes because their electrical problems.
For example: rear lights on a peugeot/citroen van(the same thing different make) earth connection has too small cross section and heats up and melts the connectors plastic, next generation has the same problem.
They just cant be bothered to fix it.As for loyalty, I have none, I would buy a Citroen GSA Pallas if I could because it looks so ugly it is cool 😛
October 8, 2013 at 2:56 am #553809My father raised me to be a Chevy guy and at the time they were good because the parts were interchangeable but I now know why ford trucks are number one for over 30 years. As far as cars are go i have had really good luck with Saturn.
October 8, 2013 at 4:26 am #553821You may have heard about this already Eric but with you discussion about swag in the video I figured this would be relative. It is Subaru’s badge of ownership program.

October 8, 2013 at 7:19 am #553841For me, I am loyal to Subaru for the most part. It’s my first car and it’s real easy to work on for a beginner tech. My family only has had cars they could afford and the last car they had was a 90 Volvo. For the most part, I was raised with Japanese econ cars such as Honda accord 3 door hatches and Toyota corolla 3 door hatches. When I was little we had a few domestics but they all had issues. Mostly electrical and my dad tried fixing, but ended up making it worse. He even fried a car by installing an alternator wrong. Him and car’s don’t mix and he has no clue on maintaining them. He’s a web developer who shouldn’t be around cars at a garage. Mom knows some, but not much. She mostly learned from my uncle who is a ford master tech. I am the only one in the family now who knows how car’s operate and how to work on them. Granted I am a beginner still in school, but compared to the rest of the family I live with I am the tech. The only other brands I like are Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Toyota. Only domestic I like is Chevy. I just like the design of them both inside and out. I even got my drivers license in my friends 04 Chevy Cavalier. So I guess you could say I am mostly loyal to Subaru since I not only own one but I like working on them.
October 8, 2013 at 11:52 pm #553911I’m not a brand fanatic, even though I have come to like older Citroens (those of the 1980s), probably because I’ve got my imprinting with an 89 AX GT that even if she’s passed away I still love her :cheer:
I have had a Peugeot , two Fiats , an MG ZR.
My father had 4 fiats , a Cinquecento , a 128 , a 127 and an Argenta.
What can I say, I prefer cars that I know and especially know how to fix, that’s the reason I like Citroens besides their odd look
And they are simple too, and the parts are ridiculously cheap. But the Citroens of today…well, I can only say they look and feel just like all the other newish cars, all the same, all huge and heavy, and overfilled with electronics.
As all the other newish cars, I kinda dislike them; I have too many “programmed obsolescence” suspicions to actually trust them.So….I’m not brand loyal, I’m model loyal 🙂
The Peugeot that followed the AX was a 106, which is 98% like an AX, and I chose that car exactly because of this reason.
The first Fiat Punto I chose because it had AC 😆 , and the second one I chose because I had found the first to be an honest car.The MG was an exception, I got that because I felt I needed a fast car (I know, it’s silly!)
Then I got the second AX (guess why? 😉 ) and a 23 year old BX; this last one just out of curiosity for the famous Citroen Hydropneumatic suspensions, and for a passion for old 1980s carbed cars.
That’s my experience 🙂
Live long and prosper (and stay dirty!)

November 9, 2013 at 10:20 pm #561227About 14 years , when I moved to New Zealand from South Africa , I went looking for a car , my first port of call was a local Ford dealership , well , if you have ever walked into someones home , uninvited , you will get a feeling on how the sales man treated me , cut to the local GM dealership , and they could not have been more helpful and welcoming , so , I am a GM- Holden fan and driver , now on my third , all from the same dealer . :cheer:
