I have a 2001 Maxima. The front brakes and discs were replaced about a year ago. Now, however, they squeak when NOT applied. If you apply the brakes they stop squeaking.
Thanks in advance for insights on this. I’ve seen some suggestions about lightly sanding the pads… but not sure that would help in this case.
(BTW: My apology in advance. I’m confident this topic has been addressed before, but I’ve tried numerous searches and can’t find anything via the ETCG search engine.

If the pads have worn down, the wear indicators may be contacting the rotor. This condition makes a squeal when the wheel turns that goes away when the brakes are applied. It’s a good place to start.
Pulled the front brakes pads out, found one of the four was worn down substantially. Apparently, one of the guides was stuck or there was an air bubble in the line and caused that brake cylinder to not retract, or something to no function correctly.
Pulled the guides out, cleaned an lubricated. Put in new set of pads. Working fine right now, but still need to bleed the lines out thoroughly.
