Brake pin lubricant

Hey guys, I’m going to change the brake pads on my car soon, and as ETCG suggested on a video to use silicon paste on the caliper pins, I went in search for it. But I only found silicon spray lubricant and not paste itself. Because it was cheap and I can exchange it with no problems, I brought lithium paste to do the job. Coming home and doing a quick search I found out that it is bad for rubber components. So, this one is a no-no.

So my question is, is it okay to use the spray silicon lubricant on the pins or will it go dry quickly or isn’t thick enough? Or should I stop being a cheap bastard and order some paste off Amazon? 😛

When you buy your pads tell the parts person you need lube for the caliper guide pins ( they usually offer it anyways ) sometimes they will throw in a small packet for free. if you plan on doing lots of brake jobs then buying the can of 3m is worth it. otherwise a packet of permatex ceramiclube will last quite a while ( about 5.00 bucks ) for the back of the pads I recommend the orange pad quiet from CRC.

I asked on some shops around here for it, but every one of them made me a funny face… :S I changed the pads and brake fluid already, big improvement (had air in the brake lines), but when I get the paste I will add it!

I live in Europe, no Napa here! Ordering a 3M can online is arount 45$ with shipping and I don’t have the money now, it will have to wait… :unsure:

Make sure you clean all the old grease you put in there out if not it may cause other problems with a chemical reaction between the 2 lubricants.

I don’t know if around here people don’t think it’s necessary to lube the pins, but I can’t find them anywere… :huh:

Since the 3M paste is expensive and I won’t do another brake job any time soon (my pads last 150k km) I can just order this, it’s the same right?
