ok so i recently bought a 95 honda accord automatic. replaced the front brake pads with a good quality ones. i cant say if its after that or since i bought brake pedal sinks to the floor at low speed. works perfectly fine at high speed. only when coming to stop it sinks slowly to the floor or while cornering or at idle. i didnt open any brake lines or anything that could cause air to get in the system. fluid level is fine. dont know when it changed but color looks okay. anyone ever experienced this problem with honda? this is the first honda i have ever owned. my plan is to bleed the system with new fluid. i am gonna get regular dot 4 fluid. is that okay ? or i must need to use honda fluid only? i just hope its not the master cylinder. let me know guys. i am gonna get this done next weekend. any ideas will be appreciated. 🙂

Sometimes when you push the caliper pistons back to make room for the new pads you force debris back into the master cylinder. You could try bleeding the system but I think the master cylinder is failing. Also be sure there are no fluid leaks anywhere as a small leak can cause the same problem.

agreed with wyse. 1. Check for leaks 2. bleed it 3. check the master cylinder.

If you didn’t crack the bleeder open when you pushed in the piston, it’s likely you damaged the master cylinder.

OMG ericthecarguy replied on my question. So happy about that. 😀 thanks a lot for that. thanks to wysetech and shoptech. i just bled from all four wheels with Nulon dot 4 (australian made) fluid. and solved the sinking problem. BUT there is a big “BUT” which is i dont get that farm and smooth feeling. its hard to explain but when you put ur feet on the pedal you get that immediate smooth braking feeling what you feel in a brand new car? thats just gone. what i am guessing its the fluid. no other braking issues i believe but i want bring back that braking feeling. it may sounds stupid but still. do you guys think putting honda fluid would do the trick? thanks in advance.

Spongy pedal is usual air left in the system at some point. (I’ve known cars/trucks that take A LOT of bleeding to get all the air out.)

Given the fact the Master Cylinder is highly suspect?

I would replace that and rebleed the entire system. If the internal seals in that master cylinder are shot, sooner or later you’ll be in for a very nasty shock.
