Very interesting about the square cut seal, didn’t know about them until this video! As usual, learning heaps from your videos.
On the topic of brake calipers and the like, what do you recommend to re-grease the slide pins? I’ve heard silicone and lithium based greases can eat away at the rubber boots, and so I use a castor oil based product developed for braking applications, but its a bit more expensive. What’s your opinion?
February 9, 2013 at 2:10 am #498736Silicone paste ONLY. Never use petroleum based lubricants on slide pins. I believe there is a link in the description of the video.
February 9, 2013 at 4:13 am #498841Castor oil is vegetable based. I think it was also used in DOT 2 brake fluid as well.
The stuff I use is made by PBR, but I’m not sure if you have a similar brand/product in the USA
February 9, 2013 at 10:45 am #498971Does changing the brake fluid regularly extend the life of calipers and other brake parts?
Thank you
February 14, 2013 at 7:39 am #500378I was wondering if that is the same principle used in some of the high end sports cars with 4 6 or even 8 piston calipers. Im assuming so but you never know. Also is it the same with ABS and standard braking systems? I enjoyed this video (as well as some of teh comments) as usual!

I also have been wondering what makes the piston retreat. But now I know. Nice to learn new things. - AuthorReplies
