      My 2003 mustang gt has both front calipers sticking. The car only has 5600 miles on it. The car has never saw the weather. I compressed both calipers an first time I hit the breaks they stuck again. I’m thinking it could be a stuck check valve in the master cylinder . Has anyone had this problem and wondering if I’m on the right track thinking my master cylinder

        I would verify the calipers are working correctly by releasing the bleeder valve at the wheel. If the caliper releases the rotor then it could be the flexible brake line collapsed internally. But since the vehicle sits a lot being that it has low miles and is a 2003 the caliper slides that allows the brake pads to move could be preventing the pads from moving back and forth. The caliper bolts might need to be greased or the brake pad shims could be causing a problem.

        You might need to take the brakes apart to make sure.

        I wouldn’t write off the master cylinder just yet.

          The calipers, heck, the whole brake system may be all gooped up with rust, corrosion, sediment, and congealed brake fluid. Or maybe someone put the wrong kind of brake fluid in it and it swelled up the seals. Or it’s the original brake fluid and now all full of moisture and that’s caused corrosion problems.

          You probably need to dissassemble the calipers completely and check them for corrosion and deteriorated square-cut piston seals. If the calipers are okay then the problem is upstream, so you need to check the hoses, ABS system, and master cylinder. I usually just replace the master cylinder, they’re only like $50 and in every case that’s been the hidden problem.

            There really isn’t a valve in the master cylinder that can do that. If the pushrod for the master cylinder isn’t adjusted correctly it can cause a problem like that however. If the master cylinder hasn’t been off the vehicle then I would say that’s a very remote possibility. That said, I’d turn my attention to the calipers first. It could be that they’re sticking or perhaps you have bad brake hoses. You might start by servicing the calipers.
