I have a strange issue I cannot pinpoint a cause. After my car warms to normal operating tempature it bogs down. It feels like there is a drag on the car. As if the brake is stuck on or tranny is in 1st gear. it revs high and needs more gas to go faster. Seems to struggle past 20mph. This happens only when engine is warm.
I smell a burning wire smell from under the hood but see no meting plactic or wires. The engine seems to be hotter than normal. It does not overheat atleast not yet.
also turning the wheel all the way in either direction results in a grinding if held and a thumping if turned is this normal?

No, it’s not. See if giving the car gas (in neutral) makes the steering wheel easier to turn. That’s an easy way to check if your pump is starting to go. The “grinding” is there if you turn the wheel, even when stationary, or only when turning? In either case, it sounds to me like you need to check your CV-joints and tie-rods. I know that’s a long shot, but it’s an easy check.
As far as the acceleration, manual or automatic? It could indeed be stuck in 1st of auto…
Not even going to speculate further until you give more details on that.

grinding is only when the wheel is reaching the end of its turning radius it is automatic in D4
April 28, 2013 at 3:20 am #517894could the burning be from the power steering belt.
as for the car running hotter than normal.check that
your cooling fans are operating.also check for any wires
laying on exhaust manifolds or exhaust pipe.April 28, 2013 at 3:26 am #517900grinding is only when the wheel is reaching the end of its turning radius it is automatic in D4
That does sound like either one of the problems I mentioned. It is most likely completely separate from your other issue.

after engine warms up it turns from grinding/thumping to a whirring/clicking
April 28, 2013 at 3:52 am #517918Check for any power steering leaks as well. Grinding noises at full lock usually indicate air within the power steering system as for the smell the fluid could be dripping onto or blowing back onto a CV and flicking onto the exhaust. Power loss would come from the engine having to use more power to run the pump as their is air and not fluid leading to the pump compressing the air instead of making fluid flow. I recommended getting a torch and having a look around and also check your reservoir. Have gotten this problem on camrys, eks, lancers…. Basically any fwd car haha

checked fluid levels 1st thing this morning power steering reservoir was down to the Min mark so i bought and topped it off as well as added antifreeze as that was a tad low too at least i think it was there was no min/max markings on the antifreeze reservoir.April 28, 2013 at 4:04 am #517930Get it up on stands and get a mate you trust to be in the car and go lock to lock while ok look for leaks keeping pressure on the power steering system will make it easier to find leaks if there are any

I dont have any stands. I dont even have access to the Ramps i did in July.
April 28, 2013 at 2:59 pm #517987I wouldn’t advise this but you can do it on the ground and go lock to lock but you really shouldn’t. If you don’t have stands and you want to test it do the lock to lock in loose gravel

Tried that. I wanted to check for leaks after topping off the fluids (and look at my new brake lines) but the car is too low to the ground to get a good look at anything.
April 28, 2013 at 4:13 pm #518007Better get some stands then haha

just occured to me that the bog down can me maybe compressed caliper? When i had the brake lines replaced i had them fix bead leak in a tyre maybe when they put the rim back on they did it too tight and its putting tension on the caliper?
April 28, 2013 at 7:48 pm #518022The bogging could be a seized caliper but if that was the case you would have a burnt clutcxh smell
