I always used a D.A. air sander ,however I no longer have an air compressor and to get one that will run a D.A. is way over my budget . I want to prep my old truck and my question is , Is there any type of electric random orbital sander that would work just as good as a DA.? Thanks .

There are electric dual action polishers/sanders, like the PC 7424XP. The 7424 was originally marketed as a sander, but became popular with the DIY auto detailers because one is much less likely to damage the paint compared to a rotary buffer. I do not know if the electric tool will offer the same performance as an air tool when it comes to dry or wet sanding tasks.

I have a Dewalt electric DA Sander. HIGHLY recommend this as one doesn’t need monster compressor either ! Don’t bother with a cheapie, just get a Dewalt or another good brand and will wonder you didn’t on sooner. Don’t get a buffer and put a sanding pad on it – buffer is a different tool. Just get electric DA sander.

This may draw some criticism but I use a cheap Harbor Freight 5 inch dual action to just rough in. Then I switch too and finish with sanding blocks. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a DA sander just for the purpose that I use it for.

I bought a Harbor Freight grinder. I killed after the second day of use. Then I bought a Dewalt and have been using and been brutal on it for several years. It was 3 times as much money, however it will last 100 times along. I have Dewalt electric DA sander that I believe could be used 8 hours a day for years and not give me trouble

Two months ago I posted this question about D.A.. sanders, air vs. Electric. Some of you responded and I appreciate all the info you all have provided. From these responses I did purchase a DeWalt 443 random orbital sander. DeWalt always had a good name in tools so that’s why I went with this brand. I have used it for about a total of an hour. I purchased it brand new for $168.00 . I don’t have a lot of faith in cheap tools . I like this tool ,it works well ,and it does the job probably as good as my air D.A. that I don’t use lack of an air compressor. There is always pro’s and con’s right? Here are the con’s as I see it. This sander is a six inch hook & loop. The hook & loop are more expensive than the stick on disc’s. Also the fact that it is a 6 IN. not only makes the cost more but they are harder to find . This is what I don’t like . I did find a company on the web that I will sanding disc’s from and try them out. This sander had very good reviews by the way , and I never gave it any thought about the cost and availability of 6 IN. sand disc. So I am pointing this out to you ,if you are thinking about buying an electric D.A. sander I would try to find one that has a 5 inch pad for 5 inch stick on sand disc. That is more affordable. Also If you want to check out this company for sand disc’s and abrasive pads for stripping and such ,the company is Lehigh Valley Abrasives put that in the search engine. I hope this is helpful.

Absolutely without a doubt the brand name DA sanders are better quality. But for me the way I use mine it would have been a tremendous waste of money to spend a lot of money on one. But again, I will take sanding blocks over DA sander after rough in.
