Body Control Module?

I have a 2000 Malibu LS and my friend has a 2002 Malibu. There’s some features on his car that are not on mine and I was wondering if it’s controlled trough the BCM. His car has the features of his headlights staying on briefly after shutting off the car, the radio also stays on after shutting the car off and shuts off after opening the door, and it also has a chime that dings when he locks the door. My 2000 Malibu does not have any of these features. My question is are the features on the 02 Malibu controlled through the body control module? And if so could I take an BCM from an 02 Malibu and put it in mine?

Unless you have an exceptional reason, I would not alter the configuration of your vehicle. I’m not sure it would not work but am sure your likely to cause yourself considerable grief. If you want a car with those features, find one you can afford and buy it then sell yours. Cars of that age are not too expensive regardless of the features on board as long as they run well. If you are a good shopper and salesman you might even come out on the plus side.

Yes those features are likely controlled by the BCM. It’s not likely that you can take a BCM out of another vehicle and just install it in yours. It’s likely that you’d also have to change your wiring harness as well as some other components to get those features. In short, it’s more trouble than it’s worth and not as easy as you suggest.
