Immobilizer circuit needs power and is connected to the ignition. If you mean would your alarm, factory or otherwise, kill the vehicle in addition, yes, very likely….If anything had power. You should find that out as soon as you manually open a door. Which will tell you if it’s your key fob battery or the car’s.

Once the vehicle does get power use your key fob to deactivate/unlock door(s) as usual. These are not volatile memory setups, they will keep their encrypted codes stored regardless of loss of power(even prolonged).

Take the car to an auto part store and have the battery and alternator
load tested for free. check out this link.

If your wife was driving the car, may be she left something “on” the last she was in it. Have the battery charged up and see if the problem will pop up again. If the battery is a goner, make sure the new one is the same as the old (voltage, starting amperage, even brand) BMWs are quite picky when it comes to the battery used.

If a battery is long in the tooth it can easily go dead in two weeks. My previous battery, if I drove the car daily, would start and operate the car perfectly. Let it sit for 5 days and dead.

You need to realize modern cars have things running in them whether the car is on or off. So, none of them can sit for an extended period without running the battery dead.

I vote for having the battery and it’s connections checked. It’s the first thing to check with any electrical problem anyway. Even though the battery is new to you, it could have sat on a shelf for some time. More information here.
