I’ve just picked up a tidy one-owner 2003 Ford Escape 2.0L for my wife. I’m completely new to Fords, I know nothing about them from a DIY perspective. What’s the best scan tool to get to go with it?

I’d ideally like something that isn’t just a generic dumb code reader, and will be able to do pro-level things like ABS bleeds and anything else that might prevent me having to take it to a dealer to get plugged into their uber-expensive diagnostic gizmo. Is that sort of thing available to the Ford DIYer at a reasonable price?

The ABS systems, most of the aftermarket scan tools will not get inside of Ford’s ABS systems.Their factory scan tool has to be used and says in the diagnostic charts.Tried it before with a Ford Explorer once, specified their factory scan tool only.Ford is getting really lousy with their computer systems, they don’t release any computer info out anymore to the public and independent shops. The dealer gets it only and Ford’s computer’s systems are a headache to work on most of the time

Autoenginuity and buy the Ford Enhanced Coverage Package. Proabably run you about $550. Launch makes a good basic scanner but I haven’t played with that one.
