Best replacment CV Driveaxles?

I have a 2005 Honda CR-V EX AWD Automatic. I need to replace my driver’s side front CV Axle. Honda OEM runs about $500 at discounted Honda websites, which I can’t afford to pay right now. I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the replacement rebuilt axles for $40-$80 from AutoZone, RockAuto, etc.

I’ve heard good things about Raxles, which uses rebuilt axle shafts, but manufactures their own outer CV Joint. Unfortunately, they don’t make a unit for my CR-V.

Can anyone suggest a decent affordable replacement – or those to definitely avoid, for my CR-V? What about the junkyard route-finding one with intact boots and installing it? I’ve done a quick check, and there aren’t a lot of 2005 CR-Vs in the yard yet, but I could get lucky.

I would appreciate any guidance.

From what I have seen with the Autozone/Pep Boys axles, it’s sort of hit or miss – some work fine, but some die shortly thereafter. On our Odyssey, I replaced both front CV axles with remanufactured ones from Honda (purchased from Majestic honda online) – looks like they list them for your car at around $200, but indicate that they may have been discontinued (they still let you add them to the cart, though). I have bought a lot of stuff from RockAuto, and the one thing they have always been awesome about is warranty replacement – if a part turns out to be defective within the warranty period, you pay for the new part, then send in the old one and they refund you for the one you bought.

Have you checked NAPA ? They may have more than one grade / price point ?
