got the tyres on the impala fixed for $75 (different mechanic from where i took the Daewoo) they said the alloy rims were so bad that after wire brushing the side where the beed is it still wouldnt seal they said they had to use beed sealer. They also recommend a tyre rotation but in all honesty never drive enough to benefit from a tyre rotation. Hell the oil for the Daewoo was changed with the brakes in 2009 and it took til 2012 before i hit the 3000 mile mark to change it.

but in eric’s Tyre Mounting video he stated dont use beed sealer. So what do you all think of it?

I normaly use bead sealer ONLY when the wheel bead area is corroded , pitted , etc to a point that the tire will not seat. otherwise I don’t use it.

What we use instead of bead sealer at work is a rim rust retardant (can’t remember the name) but the stuff is a thick black paste and works really good at stopping bead leaks.

Need to use something a little more aggressive than a wire brush. You can’t seal a tire to dirt and corrosion. Then a liberal amount of grease and you are good to go.

looking at the rims i can see a little bit of black paste like substance could this be the rust retardant you speak of? also it does not appear they replaced any valves or stems is this a bad thing?

Sounds like you drive about as much as I do, about 1,500 miles a year. However For gosh sakes, change your oil at least twice a year, regardless of your mileage! Your crankcase will get condensation (water) in it over time and all of that contaminate will eventually make you a sad man. Hug your engine today! Take good care of it, and it will take care of you. At work if the bead leaks we change the stem as well, It is rubber too and should be changed any time a tire is removed from the wheel/rim. It sounds like they did a half ass-ed job, A powered wire wheel or a mini angled die grinder with a 3M pad to clean all corrosion off down to clean metal. BTW air can and will leach right through the tire itself, could be your problem is that you are not driving the car enough. I have seen this be the problem on several cars. Oh and make sure the rims are not cracked if they are aluminum.

well ill check the pressure again in a couple days make sure it still holds in all honesty i cant even tell if the stems were changed or not. only way i knew it was replaced on my Daewoo is cuz they didnt put the Chrome stem cover back on.
