Battery Corrosion Tip

I dont know if anyone here on the ETCG forum has done this before but when I saw Erics video of on the battery terminals it made we want to share what I do to prevent corrosion.I apply a small amount of grease to the terminals and Ive never had a problem.Thought someone could use this tip.

I use silicone paste,cover it with a layer.Pricy but great for years.;)

You go also do it the poor mans way, glue two Penny’s 1/8th of an inch from each terminal. Worked for me.

You can also use vinegar to clean the terminals.

what about those red and green washers for the battery terminals?

I never use those washers.Im sure they work but just dontcare to use them. Its the first thing the salesman grabs at A Z thinking you need them. Ive never used them and never had a problem. Just the grease. Is all ive ever done.SD

Those washers don’t do shit. I’m going to give the grease a shot.

I have used the grease and the felt washers. Coat the felt with oil or grease until damp to seal out air, push the terminal down tight and they work great! A small dab of grease on a penny (to hold it in place) also works great, like someone else mentioned.

The washers may not be doing anything then if you have the grease there.

Hi!

I’ve always used vaseline (also called petroleum jelly) instead of grease for my battery terminals and tips.

It tends to cover and prevent corrosion without attracting so much dirt!

Dielectric grease would work well too, and possibly be a more “Politically correct” method, not that it will work any better lol.

so Vaseline does work as well? i’ve heard it suggested before. and I use the baking soda and water paste trick to clean them, it’s what my dad taught me.

Yes sir Vaseline will work also real good.I’ve used it before no problem. I’ve used baking soda to clean them also. Works dam good for cleaning.

I use baking soda and an old toothbrush to scrub the corosion. Then I have one of those wire tools to shine up the posts and ends of cables. Then use the vaseline. Works good for me.
