Bad Tires or Clutch Slipping?

Hi everyone!

I have a 2008 Honda Civic DX Sedan with 166 000 KM on it.

When I make a hard acceleration and i shift in second gear the engine rpm go way up (4k-5k RPM) then stabilize where it should normally (3k-3.5k RPM) instead of rapidly rev match as it used to be. But I still get about the same acceleration as before.

I also have tires that are at the end of its life (Firestone FR710 with about 30 000 40 000 KM on them)

So can bad tire feel like a clutch is starting to slip?

I would say the clutch is slipping.

Tires could be a possibility if this is happening on a slippery surface, however I agree with the others that it’s probably a slipping clutch.

That’s not what I wanted to hear but hey…. if I have to change it then i’ll do it i guess 🙁

Is there a good instructional video on how to change a clutch on a 8th gen civic? Did Eric ever did one?

So I got to the shop last Thursday the technician took it for a drive and noticed the same issue as me but didn’t think my clutch was slipping bad enough to change it. We ended up lubricating the slave cylinder (It was a bit crusty and the clutch pedal were really heavy)

After a couple of days with this I can say it helped a lot with my issue. It helped it move more quickly and it is back to normal. My clutch is getting old but not enough to change it yet. That make me very happy!
