edit : steering wheel is always cocked to the right .

thank you for your time .

It’s seem to me the steering rack might be in trouble. Because all the steering column if tightly bolt and some time It’s rust and create noise and turn problem. The steering rack might be leaking and have obviously less poer to turn. The leak can be small but empty the rack. See videos :

I suggest that you take out the Rack and Pinion and inspect it. Also remove the axel and inspect both of them as well. If you observe that they are out of spec have them replaced.

Fill your power string whit fluid.
Jerk wheel is not good at all. It’s might be the steering arm that is dislocated. Or It’s should be the ball joint assembly. The ball joint can cause direction to not be able turn the wheel correctly. You have only 2 possible problems.

i think its the gear near the top of the housing of the rack. because i got it back up and the housing on top was the only spot that got wet again . i reached up grabbed it this time. (did not do this last time ) i was able to move it a 1/2 turn . so i am removing the rack to replace it .

so when i pulled down the rack i was able to put it on my bench and check it out . i notice when moving it ( shacking) it mode noise like teeth where broken off . so i replaced the rack with inner tie rods . i inspected the outer tie rods they where showing age so i replaced them along with the disc / brakes / axles / ball joints and wheel bearings since i was already down there and taking them off . i just got back from taking the car for a drive . it drives like new again. B) :woohoo:

Now you got a new caaaarrrrr….direction. I’m happy you got the budget to renew your car direction. It’s critical as the brake Itsel.

Don’t forget to align your wheels. Save your tire from premature/in equal wears

I’m very glad to hear you found the problem. Based on your description I would think you’d be able to find something like that and it’s great you did. Thanks for keeping us up to date and for using the ETCG forum. One last thing. You need to make sure you get an alignment after you replace a rack like that to avoid tearing up your tires. In the future you can used your experience and perhaps some of the tips in this video to help you find future problems.
