I just wanted to get someone else view on this. So at some point in my younger years i was told if you start your car with the a/c on it will shorten the life of your a/c. I always have my a/c off, start the car then turn it on. Is there any truth to this.

It won’t shorten the compressor life.It puts an extra strain on the
starting system with the extra load.

          Depends on the year college.

In a newer car the PCM and BCM ignore switch inputs until the vehicle has started and self checks are done. On the modern systems your A/C switch tells the HVAC module you want air, which tank forwards that command to the PCM and the PCM decides if the system is stable, pressures are correct, ambient temp is acceptable to A/C use and the driver is not demanding WOT. If all this is within parameters the PCM command the clutch to engage.

So when cranking the compressor can not be engaged
