June 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #460535Pulled the fuel pump fuse and did a proper voltage drop test on the negative battery cable. Result? 0.17 volts! So I replaced the cable and did a voltage drop test again to check the results.

June 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #460537Good job. Now I agree, I would check all those connections to the voltage regulator, looking for another source of resistance. It may soon be time to take the alternator off, for a final bench test before replacement. In the old days, you bought the volta

The problem with that Taurus sounds very similar to yours.June 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #460539You mentioned measuring alt voltage with full load and hi rpm and said the gauge was jumping around. Are you talking about the gauge of your meter or in your dashboard. If the voltage of your meter is jumping around it would indicate a high ac component t

I agree, if your belt tension is OK I’d replace the alternator IF you want to get the light out, keep in mind the light has nothing to do with the actual charging of the system however you wouldn’t know if it failed for real in thJune 29, 2012 at 11:00 am #460553Well I did a voltage drop on the positive side of the circuit. (Battery + to hot wire on alternator and got 0.04 volts. So no excessive resistance.
