i have a caprice classic that i took to a shop and he said that my backing plate was bad on my right rear drum brake. a month later it snapped in two and i had trouble getting it home now it sets since it broke.
the question was:
if a backing plate breaks what would go with it? i personally think the mechanic lied to me about everything that broke too. he says the hub is ruined and the rear-end is ruined and he wanted to buy it for parts. i said no im going to fix it but im wondering what would actually go if it did break because the part dosent seem to be a big deal to me?

This new item is now reproduced by The Parts Place. We’ve made the reproduction off of the following: GM # 18014440, 18014441, 5469279, 2620563, 2620564, 18002387, and 18002388 which use a left and right backing plate, not a universal style. This also features the brake shoe mounting stud pressed on like GM. This is the most correct reproduction on the market. This is for 9” rear drum brakes with cover. Fits most all GM cars with 10 or 12 bolt rear ends.
well sorry to say but i traded the ol caprice for a little hatchback its a 2005 chevy optra5 and it needed some work but not much i had to replace 2 rotors and 2 callipers, 2 lower ball joints, and both rear strut mounts. it works awesome its a d-tech 4 cylinder with 16 valves with 164000 km on it.
