well my mustang 2008 v6 4.0 had her valve lifters changed and while the ticking sound did go away sorta..car still has misfire and ticking sound..and i know the ticking sound has to be because of the misfire so i kept it simple like eric the car guy says..compression,spark,fuel..so we changed the alternator, battery, spark plugs and ticking sound still continues so we did a compression test on her again from the time valve lifters were changed and again 150psi on all cylinders we also revved engine to see if it was rod knock but car didnt make any rod knock sound..so only thing left in spark and fuel is ignition coil pack which all spark wires share and the fuel injectors that maybe are clogged..here is 2 videos i just made right now also this misfire started from bad gas that contained water..fuel filter has been changed and had a lot of water when changed. i use only shell gas except only that day i stoped at a local small gas station due to running on low fuel on a trip we were in but its been about 2 months and i been only running shell gas now.

in the videos you notice injectors tick more on the left side than right side and when car misfires exhaust makes puff sound and car vibrates with a slight jump in rpm

When the misfire happen the plug that got hot was white and grey and ever since I switched to ngk tr6 1 step colder..does a leaky injector or clogged cause the sound in the video when load is applied that is what i been chasing for 2 months but can’t find what it is at first I thought it was lifters but that wasn’t i
Here is the plug of the misfired I open the electro but it was shut when I took it out

I think the problem your having with detonation is you are not
running the right plug and heat range. Try a stock plug and see
if the problem gets better. Here is a little more on plugs.

well when to turn on the stang today for work and guess what the problem has shown her self…injector cylinder #1 stuck/open where the loud ticking sound is louder than the driver side and where the misfire happen that night 2 months ago..car will also stall out and rev a bit to prevent it but it will stall from time to time 🙂

Glad you found the issue.no black smoke out of the tail pipe?
how did you find that the injector was stuck open?

no black smoke i notice the car was stumbling and shut off by itself and then i turn it back ony and no check so..i plugged in my sct tuner which also reads trouble codes and it revealed injector #1 stuck/open which is exactly the cylinder which they datalog on tuesday showed a misfire but for some reason never threw a check engine or code until now

First of all i suggested a long time ago that it might be an injector making the noise.

Second…Iv’e never seen detonation close a spark plug gap.

Third….if you use fuel with ethanal water will mix with it and cause corrosion that could damage an injector.

Fourth…Even your best buddy can have water in his storage tanks. Happens all the time. Underground storage leaks and ground water gets it.

Fifth….I have never seen a piece of equipment tell you that you have an injector stuck open. If you did have an injector stuck open you would certainly know it as it would pour black smoke and probably hydrolock on start ups. Only a trained eye with an ocilliscope can truly read how an injector is working

Just my 2 cents worth. 😛

                    Source? Evidence?

What??? Do you understand this would mean that fuel would leak OUT? Expensive, profitable, money making, environmentally unfriendly fuel. You sir are making sht up.

Isn`t Fuel expensive, profitable, money making. Ask them in New Orleans if they think oil is enviromentally friendly. I have better things to do than to make up stories.

you were right it was the injector thanks for that i just wanted to take things slow to make sure there was nothing else also but it was an injector problem also the sct tuner device is like a scanner it tells you the code..also the code was p0201 after the stuck and open injector code went away this code remain ‘injector cylinder #1 chkt”

the injector #1 is located in the passenger side(left) in the video which is the louder side than the right side injectors and also is bank 2 which is saying car is running lean while bank 1 is rich and also the datalog comfirm misfire in cylinder 1 but didnt know if it was compression, spark, or fuel..but now i know its fuel :cheer:

In this forum we are all very eager to help and some of us have a HUGE ego. I make suggestions and recommendations based on many years of experience but i might be correct maybe 10% of the time. People asking for help sometimes don’t realize how difficult it is to be accurate cuz there might be 10 or more different causes. Without the car in front of us and without tools and equipment we can at best give an educated guess.

Myself, I hate to see someone spend hard earned dollars on parts that don’t fix the problem. But we all do the best we can because we really wanna help.

If interested scannerdanner on YouTube has some excellent vids on injector/waveform testing.

i appreciate your help and everyone dedication that helped me diagnose the problem it was hard since i also did have a lift ticking but got that fixed but still a ticking remained so i decided yesterday to put some seafoam in the gas tank which is almost empty and it helped show the bad fuel injector so gonna replace all of them to have a peace of mind they are all new now and just becareful where i pump gas now
