so, i went to turn on my car this morning and found out that it wouldn’t start, my remote start didnt even open the doors and the key in the ignition would not start, What the EFF!!, my first thought was the battery is dead, but considering its only 5 months old, its not possible, so i got the battery checked at my local auto shop, and the battery is perfectly fine, the technician said it is probably my alternator and it needs to be replaced.

SO, because i have a b20b engine, there is just NO space to work inside and around for me to take out the alternator, and ive been searching online for forums and videos but cant seem to find a HOW TO , if someone could help me find a source or even if you know how to remove the bad alternator and replace with a new one, with some step by step instructions that would be awesome.

oh, and because my car is too low with the new suspension setup, i cant even put my jack underneath the car to raise it up, and since the car doesnt turn on, i cant put it in Neutral for me to push it over some boards to have it raised high enough that my jack will fit under…

If your car is very low, and you just have basic tools, try this:

        • put a wood block under the car, just behind a front tire
        • let the air out of the tire
        • remove the tire
        • find a place to lift up the car and jack the car up 6 to 12 inches
        • use a jack stand to hold the car up
        • place the jack next to the wood black and lift the car up the rest of the way

As far as your alternator, I have never worked on this engine and will gladly get you the procedure when I get back to school on Tuesday. I will need the specific make, model, year, and engine type and size of your vehicle.

I actually have an idea for hard to work on alternators that I am working on. It involves replacing the alternator with an pully/adapater and running a thick flexible cable off the front of the pulley to spin the alternator, which you can mount at an easy to work on location.

An alternative solution to the recommendation above for getting under the car:

          http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/mwramps/

This will run you $30 to $50 if I remember correctly. If you have a place to store them, they are amazing for all low cars. You can use them for virtually everything that’s not suspension work.
