      HI Guys,

I bought a b18c for my del sol and am using hasport level 1 axles. The passenger side fits perfectly fine in the tranny with no play, while the drivers side where it connects to the half shaft has alot of play. The company claims they’ve watched the video and say it’s perfectly normal. What do you guys think? Excessive play, or a normal amount? The clicking you hear is it bottoming out in the half shaft, and you can’t just pull it off so it seems to be in all the way.

      thanks for any suggestions!

Just by looking at the thumbnail I can tell the axle is not fully seated. It may be that the splines on your new axle don’t quite match up to the OE halfshaft. Try seating it better and then recheck for the play.

          Hi Eric,

thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention that I put the axle in, put the old nut on and wacked it with a hammer many times. I quit thinking that I was going to screw something up in the tranny. It seems to bottom out in the half shaft, and if you pull it out it hits the clip (i’m assuming) because you have to pop it off with a pry bar or something to get it out. I may take it all apart today and get more pictures.

the thing that bothers me is the guy from hasport.com says all the swaps that he’s done have that much play, while EVERYBODY ELSE says it’s not correct, including you with your extensive honda/acura experience. I’m leaning towards just sending both axles back and going with another company. What would you do if this was your car?

          thanks again!

update – I took the half shaft and axle out of the car and tried assembling them on my bench. no matter how much pounding or anything the fitment is the exact same. It seems the axle bottoms out in the half shaft and is machined wrong or something. I’m sending the axles back to hasport and going with Napa new axles. Does anybody have experience with napa axles and their quality? I don’t have cores so I’m getting new ones. I called Honda and theirs are 200 each for remans, so that’s out of the question.

            any suggestions appreciated!

The best ‘new’ axles that I’ve found are made by Mevotech.

              Keep us posted.

BTW as I said I was not able to watch the video but by the thumbnail it looked like the axle was not fully seated.

update: I bought “new” napa axles and have the same exact fitment. Before I bought them I took the half shaft off and bolted it down to my bench snug, and was wacking the hasport axle with a 3 lb sledge hammer just to be certain that it can’t go down any further, which was the case. I threw the napa axle on and was giving it the hammer too with no difference. I’d turn the axle a hair, give it a couple smacks, turn it, smack it with each axle and still got the same results. Is it possible at all that from the factory that’s the way it fit on this car? it’s a jdm 96 97 type r with the OEM half shaft.

a few friends said if you can’t just pull it off to run it and make sure there are no noises and vibrations, and if not i should be ok. What do you guys suggest?

Kinda stumped on this one, lol. Whatever you guys suggest is the way I’ll go. It’s still off the car so I can take all kinds of pictures tonight if anybody wants them.
