      Hello, I need some help,

I want to replace my axel I noticed some noice and the boots are cut.

went on ebay, rockauto etc. and notice that for my car their is more than one length and spline count for both sides,

I came to write just as I was about to start taking them out and started measuring and counting..
is their another way say with the VIN number or any other way?

      thank you.

You doing one side or both side ?

Can you physical measure the length of the original half shafts ?

If not , I would determine how many different half shafts were made for that car .

I would go down to the parts supplier . Ask them if they have all of them in stock . If they do , ask which one they sell the most of . Ask them , if you buy the wrong one , can you bring it back and exchange it for the correct one . If yes , do that . ( Making sure you can get the old one out before the parts supplier closes for the day . )

        God bless
        Wyr

PS Or buy all of them and bring back what is not needed .

The differences in shafts are usually based on several things, specifically type of transmission and brake system. Unfortunately the VIN doesn’t really help much in this case since the VIN doesn’t usually code the transmission and brake types. What is your year, make, model, and is it auto or manual tranmission, and does it have ABS or not?

Quickly checked this page about axle info. (From your name, I assumed you’re dealing with a 2004 Hyundai Elantra.)

The driver and passenger side axles are different lengths, and each one of those comes in two different axle lengths: one for a manual transmission and the other for an automatic.

From what I’ve seen, the choice of manual or automatic transmission is the only determining factor in getting the right axles for your car.

There is also a difference if it has ABS brakes. The A/Z catalog doesn’t necessarily have a complete parts list for a given make/model. The shaft lengths are different depending on ABS or not.

                  hello thanks for the reply,

so did some home work,. (Se picture) it looks like both axles between Automatic and Manual a the same about the number of splines and Teeth for the ABS,

the difference is the length. it is very little difference wonder, and A/Z does NOT supply the ABS tone ring for the axle they sell.

How much of an impact would fractions of in do in case I get the wrong ones??

Thanks for the information. You need the following shafts:
Left side: 25-1/2 inch length, 25 spline inner and outer joints, 44 tooth ABS tone ring
Right side: 36-11/16 inch length, 25 spline inner and outer joints, 44 tooth ABS tone ring

Regardless of fractions, the length does absolutely matter, which is why there are different lengths. They wouldn’t go to the effort and expense of making the different ones if it didn’t matter. The tone rings are not sold separately. AutoZone may only carry the non-ABS shafts. You cannot use these if you have ABS. Try Napa instead. Napa has reman’d shafts for about $60 each and will come with the tone rings.

Do not put AutoZone parts in your car unless you can verify that they’re from a reputable manufacturer.

Found something interesting on some sites the
LEFT axle for the automatic calls a length of 25 1/2″ like NAPA.
on others A/Z or rock auto the length is 25 9/16″

so depending on where I get it, their is a 1/16″ difference.

                          toughts?
