RE: Encoder Motor.,,, I removed the plug to the Encoder motor, connected the red wire to 12 volt battery+ positive ,. black wire to – ground.

      1. I should have heard the motor run, is that correct? I’d like your though on this.

      2. That would mean the motor should be replaced, can the motor be purchased~or must the small gear box come with it?

      Thank you

      Richard

Thanks, I’ve seen that. I’d like to know if any one has checked the motor its self by putting 12volts to it. Or why it wouldn’t work or shouldn’t be done.

The motor didn’t run with 12volts, does that show the motor doesn’t work?

I’m not sure why the procedure does not suggest the 12v straight to it? It may cause damage
to the device putting 12v right to it. Its a pulse motor. I would ohm it as suggested and replace
            it if not in spec.

I could try that, I have a repair manual but not easy to fine how to test the motor itself.

The book says: Test motor windings for short to ground. It gives no values for ohms. What would you set the Ohm meter on?

              Thanks for posting.

Your only reading up to 35 ohms so either auto range or thousands. not sure what meter you have?

Greetings, I installed a new Encoder Motor, That seem to have fixed the problem, the AWD is working again. It is grippy in the turns, I’ll change the fluid.

AC Delco Auto trac II recomended. NAPA, and all the autoparts have other brands. I think I’ll stick with AC Delco but they’ll be closed tomorrow being Sunday.
College Man, Thanks for thinking this one over with me.
