What do you guys think of this tool list i found online http://www.wwcc.edu/CMS/index.php?id=1260 (look at both first year and second year lists). What are some things that you think are unnecessary? What should I get thats not on that list? Do I really need that many sockets it seems like i’m gonna have 6 of the same size socket for know reason? This is what I am currently planing on buying in bulk to start my tool box because it seems as if every employer requires entry level techs to have basic tools.

Those old Craftsman screwdrivers from way back when that had the clear plastic/blue painted handles might have been good, although I think the reason they didn’t wear out for most people was that the shape of them didn’t lend themselves to much usage. It would be hard to strip a screw with something that was so painful to hang on to that many probably went flying across shops. I think the ones I were given might have been sacrificed for a wood carving project, sharpened for picks, things like that. You know, they looked alot like the ones we used to make as projects in school metal shop classes. (do they even have that now ?)

I never had a set, but the SK screwdrivers with the green hard handles were nice, and I think they might still make them. I think the Craftsmans on you have maybe a similar type, but with black handles instead of green. I have never had any like that, maybe they are better than the the tip benders I saw.

Yes, Snap-on stuff is needed. I have never known ANY tech, ever, young or old, rich or poor, all religions, ethnicitys, ect who didn’t use at least some Snap-on stuff. This includes everybody from my neighbor who did RC car stuff to Airplane Mechanics. A shop without Snap-on trucks visiting would be like a bar without a beer truck delivering.

Never understood why he had Chinese tools.

My best tool guy was hands down my Mac dealer. He went out of the way to find me the tools I wanted specifically. Then used all the reasons why I wanted that particular style as selling points for other customers. I found him some really good tools that way. My drop light being one of them. The thing is gd bright its not even funny. It has a ratcheting hook. Its LED and is corded so I don’t have to keep buying batteries or batteries and charger for reusable. It will work perfectly for me for more then likely the rest of my years. I may need to do minor stuff to it mainly being resurfacing the plastic lens but….

Are local snap on dealer is useless he frequency misses weeks shows up late/ different times Always pushes you to buy things but come on to try and get something repaired or exchanged and you can expect at least 3 weeks because what you need is never on the van

Most of my Snap on stuff comes from retired techs or online now I’ll go on the van and pick up the odd bit here and there but I dont really like to give him the business.

Sounds like my current Snap-On guy. My Matco guy is worse but, at least he is honest unlike my Snap-On guy.

Funny, I have been waiting for a certain Snap-on guy to return back from the Hoidays..going on 2 months. what is with these guys anyway. Story is the same everywhere. I am about to go to a friend of mine who sells Cornwell he isn’t careful. I just don’t like BLUE grips on tools much, and corn in the name, well I don’t know about that for tools. Do you think guys in Stealerships laugh at Cornwell stuff ?

I’ve never been laughed at for having a mix of tools. Who needs 100% Snap-On stuff in their toolbox? That’s just an unrealistic expectation.

I highly doubt anyone would laugh at someone for having any of the tool truck brands. Harbor Freight I guess but, I still don’t care I have yet to find 1/4″ drive impact torx that hold up as well.

He used it ALOT and it is still going under professional use by me. I would like to see any drill nowdays do that.

My electric drill is a Milwaukee Magnum Hole-Shooter From the 1970’s i had to replace the cord due to dry rot. It was my father’s it puts new drills and pneumatic drills to shame constantly.

Sorry for some bad photo’s was a little rushed before all the other guys started wondering what the hell i was doing 😉

this is my current toolbox, it’s far from perfect and there are cheaper brands in there that are slowly being transferred to my home toolbox and replaced with better brands, I Was in a slight predicament when I started up as i did my training outside of a dealership so when I got a job at a big dealership i found myself needing a toolbox and a ton of tools and not having $10k sitting in the bank to blow compromises where made.
