I have an 88′ prelude 2.0 Si with an automatic transmission , a few days ago the reverse won’t go through it’s like getting stuck only in reverse , all the other velocities work fine…. What could be the issue ? and how it can be fixed without spending a lot of money…

If you have all forward gears. Then something in tranny for
reverse. You may want to involve a trans shop for the diagnostic.

Although its more likely an internal tranny issue, it is possible that the shifter linkage need to be adjusted. I am not familiar with your car but it would be something for you to look at.

I have seen your problem before on a Honda. You will need to access the shift lever where the cable connects to it. Remove the cable and move the lever manually to see if it moves in it’s full range. If it moves fully both ways you have a shifter or cable problem. I suspect the outer casing on the cable is moving with the cable and it shouldn’t.

PLEASE! make sure the park brake is applied and or wheels are blocked before attempting your diagnosis.

Transmission problems and ‘cheap’ don’t always go together. That said, you might check the cable as suggested. If you have a flashing D4 light pull the codes and see what you have. If not then it might be an internal problem as suggested. If that’s the case you’ll likely need to find a reman transmission or have the one in your vehicle rebuilt. Remember to only use Honda fluid in a Honda transmission for best results. More information in this article.
