This car has been running pretty good for a while now, i went down the road, and as i was driving it acted like the key got flipped over. The car will turn over but acts like the key is off. Still sounds like it is getting good compression though! Please help

Also i had a friend turn my key as i had my ear to the open gas lid, and i didnt hear any kind of fuel pump kicking on or off…not sure if that means its the pump for sure though, just let me know what you think, thanks

So i have some good news, and some bad news..Ok, so i replaced the coil packs! Plug wires!, plugs, fuel pump…and hours of bs later it runs, and purrs like a kitten after a big bag of cat nip lol! So the bad news is that i went out at 9 at night, and about got a ticket! car is not tagged, or insured…glad she is running good again!

Good to here it lives again! I was prepared to fly your way and pay you what the scrapper would 🙂

Also its nice to see someone put proper plugs in the car. Anything other than the OEM spec plug and it will run like a bag of chips.

True story almost similar to yours:

When I moved cross country I left my vehicle back home. Following spring I bought an 86 Jetta for a few hundred bucks because it was nothing more than a beater with a heater. I decided rather than return the next day with plates and tags I’d just drive it home with an old plate. Five min into the drive the cabin filled with the most acrid smoke of all time, I had to pull over and get out as I thought my newly purchased car was burning to the ground. After a bit the smoke went away so I jumped back in and got it home. I had to throw away the clothes I was wearing they stunk so bad of smoke. Next day I discovered that while sitting parked for who knows how long the rain drains under the cowel had clogged up with pine needles and the rain tray was full of water. Some of that had splashed down the cabin vent and onto the blower fan. It quickly shorted burned up. Thankfully the fuse blew before it caught fire!

Similar to that an old friend of mine spent an absolute mint putting a custom built turbo engine into his Jetta waggon. The builder is a genius, thing was so power full. Needless to say buddy decided to fake plate it and take it for a highway rip for fun. In the process of shoe horning the engine in the builder had to custom make a front engine mount to lower its height. Needless to say the cheap ass bolt holding it together snapped when he hit a bridge expansion joint at 180kph. The oil pan hit the road and ground through in seconds. Engine shut off and sprayed oil all over the car. Needless to say he ended up not only paying the fine for being stopped on a bridge and the flatbed home but had to pay the legal fines too.

A win is a win. Get it registered and back on the road so you stay out of trouble. Thanks for the updates and for using the ETCG forum.
