ATF in the gas tank

Does anyone know if putting ATF in the gas tank (gas or diesel) will help clean the fuel system in a modern car?

While I (and obviously a few others) can’t actually answer your question, I feel safe saying it sounds like a bad idea. ATF is good at cleaning stuff, but gasoline already is a radically more effective solvent/gunk dissolver. If you could get away with putting gasoline in your tranny, alot more gunk would come loose that the ATF detergents aren’t getting.

ATF in the gas was an old school way of cleaning fuel systems in vehicles with carburetors. In a modern vehicle I don’t think it is in there long enough to do any good for cleaning.
