Just got this email offer from Advance Auto. Just wondering if there is a need for this kind of tool or if my money is better spent or saved elsewhere.

Those things are a HUGE timesaver, and when I see videos of people just using a regular wrench to work a fastener out it’s like they are back in the stone age.

found that these wrenches can gear slip if you really try to gorilla the nut or bolt.The GearWrench brand have a lifetime warranty too – not sure if you can just bring them back to the store to replace or have to send the wrench back.
You can find alot of brands now making those ratchets. If you dont fancy paying for a big brand name set such as Snap-On, i would highly recomend the Craftsman choice and also the Gear Wrench sets also.
They are sure a time saver when you are working in tight spaces.
The best use i have had for mine is when i was putting a bumper cover back onto a Mustang.

Gear wrench is made by Craftsman and similarly has a lifetime warranty. If one of your gear wrenches ever breaks just bring it to sears for replacement.

I think it’s the other way around – there are no Craftsman factories, it’s all made for them by someone else. But you are right, they do sell Gearwrench at Sears (that’s where I got mine) so maybe they do replace them on the spot for you. Hopefully I will never have to find out.
The ratcheting box end of them,dip them in clean automatic transmission fluid.Gets dry inside overtime,The ATF lubes them up.Any Matco tool dealer warranties them since Gearwrench is owned by the same company that also owns Matco tools,Danaher tools.Danaher is the biggest tool company out there owns KD,Lisle,Allen tools,Matco tools,Gearwrench including medical equipment used in most hospitals.
I have long and short ones and they are great! Use my 15mm stubby one all the time undoing transfer case nuts when I’m taking transmissions out of trucks, huge time saver!

I have a craftsman felx ratchet set and I love them, I Use them more then any other tool.
They are a must have for all the small cars I work on.Used a set all evening breaking down a Buick 3800 V6…Between my friend and I we had the whole engine apart in no time! They helped us out so much…I don’t own a set…they were his as was the engine…but I’m going to Sears this weekend to get a set! Thats how much I liked them!
I took a good look at the gear wrench set that was for sale, it had the ratcheting open end too, which didn’t impress me. I ended up going to Harbor Freight getting their ratcheting wrenches, 7 piece set for $20 after combining a 20% off coupon with the sale price. They are lifetime warrantee, no receipt needed. I know I’m taking a chance but the reviews online suggested they might work out and I’m not a professional mechanic.
They are made in Taiwan like many other tools are.
I will keep you informed long term how these wrenches are.
Ratchet wrenches are worth their weight in gold, I know the snap on guys here will warrenty out gear wrench brand. I bought a Blue Point set and I believe that they are made by gear wrench but have blue point stamped on them.. lol
