I’m signed up for A4 (steering & suspension) and A5 (brakes).

Good luck guys! Do you have to renew your certifications in the States by writing tests? Here in Canada if we pass the big exam we have it for life as long as we renew every 3 years, all we have to do is pay the $60 fee and we get a new 3 year sticker for our certificate. We only have one exam to get our licence, I think it was 125 multiple choice questions, all different categories, engines, transmissions, suspension etc. I managed to get 87% on my first try. I think we needed 70 to pass, you got your provincial certification which means you’re only licenced in the province you reside in, if you moved provinces you’d need to rewrite in that province to be certified. Over 80% and you got “Red Seal Certification” which means you’re certified in all of Canada with the exception of Quebec, they have different regulations than the rest of the country for some stupid reason…

I’ve got about 4ish months left of my technical training, and in Nov. I am going for my last 3! Engine Performance and the two Trans./Drive Trains. Would be pretty cool to leave a Master Tech. but there is Jan. as well.

My A4 test had a major amount of just wear and tear on parts and being able to understand noise complaints. The best trick I learned was to sit there during the test and position my hands the way caster, camber, and toe were showed. Helped out a lot.

A5 is pretty basic. As long as you have an understanding of a few noises and a general concept of pedal problems, process of elimination isn’t that bad on brakes.

Good luck, and if you have any questions I can try my best to help.

The biggest issue I’m going to run in to is steering. I work on suspension and brakes every day, but I never work on racks, gear boxes, or anything with the power steering system. I have books, but I can only read them for so long before I have to take a nap

Oui do non know what zis “rrrred seal certifcation” iss.

Perhaps you mean “Certification Sceau rouge.”

In order to pass ziss test you must answer all questions en Francais.

Then under your name, you must write:
                      Le Qu

                            lol yeah i know.

I’m getting kinda overwhelmed now. I’m pretty confident with brakes but I’m cramming as much steering info into my head as possible yet i feel like it’s going in one side of my brain and out the other.
